• Cheap Is Not Always The Better Choice

Men, there are some things you should not go cheap on when you are making a purchase. Sometimes buying something cheap is not always the best choice.I like a bargain just as much as the next person. I do a lot of price comparisons and shop around before I make most of my purchases. If I can find a product that is high end that is on sale for a bargain, I will buy it. Of course, I never pay more for something if I can find it somewhere else for a better price. The one thing I try to stay away from is buying something cheaply made, just to save a dollar or two, and sometimes even more.

I know of one man back in the 80's that bought a car called a Yugo. He paid something like $4,000.00 for the car. Within a short time, his seat broke and his gear shift became disconnected from the car. The crank on his driver's side came off, and he began getting flat tires from the smallest bump and pothole in the road. Soon after that, his bargain car began to have a plethora of mechanical problems. Not too long after that, the manufacturer stopped making the Yugo. His car was in need of a bullet to put it out of its misery!

I usually weigh the cost versus the quality on most products. Some cheap products you buy, thinking you are getting a bargain, break within a year, forcing you go out and buy the same thing again. Over time, you would save more money by cracking open your wallet and paying more for something that will last decades. When I make a purchase, I want to buy something that lasts for years and years. I also look at appreciation versus depreciation of the items I am about to purchase. Some things appreciate in value with time, some hold their value, and others lose their value rather quickly. Some of the things that I make sure I go for quality rather than a cheap price include cars, some clothing, furniture, tools, home construction products, kitchenware, food, and hotels.

When it comes to buying a car, you should make sure you look at quality, as well as price. I would never recommend having a car payment you can't afford, and, even better, I would advise that you pay cash for a car, rather than getting a loan. You may be thinking that you can't afford a higher quality car. The one thing to keep in mind is that you will probably spend more in the long run by buying a cheap car. You are going to want to purchase a vehicle that lasts for years, is safe, and does not "nickel and dime" you with costly repairs. You can find reasonably-priced, high-quality cars by purchasing one that is 1 or 2 years old.

Certain types of clothing should be bought with quality in mind. When I buy business attire, I purchase traditional clothing that will last longer and not be subject to fashion trends. I go a little cheaper for casual wear and fitness clothes, but I still keep some standards when it comes to quality. Shoes are a clothing purchase that I never go cheap on. Most of us spend a majority of the day on our feet, and we can't afford to "go cheap" in this area.

Purchasing furniture is similar to purchasing clothing in that you want to be sure you make purchases that are not subject to trends. Buying a giant, green, Incredible Hulk, hand chair may seem cool now, but will it still feel that way in a few years? Stick to buying sturdy, classic furniture made from real wood that will stand the test of time. You do not want to buy sofas, chairs, and tables that are going to quickly develop tears or fall apart. Real leather is more durable than pleather, looks nicer longer, and is more comfortable to sit on. It is especially important to put quality over price when choosing a bed. We spend one third of our lives in bed, and it should be on a mattress that provides pure comfort and a good night's sleep.

When I buy tools and construction materials, I go for quality. Of course, I look for deals and sales, but I want to use tools that are not going to fail me when I am doing a home project. Also, when I take on a home project, I want the home improvement to last 30 or 40 years, look classy, and also improve the value of my home. This includes all home fixtures and materials used outside that need to hold up in all sorts of weather. Flooring is something that can last a long time if you make the right choice. Hardwood flooring and ceramic tile will last years longer than linoleum, stick-on tile, and synthetic wood. When you make a carpet purchase, you want to buy something that will last. I would also recommend going with a thicker carpet padding; this will extend the carpet's life and also provide great comfort.

I used to buy cheap pots and pans and other kitchenware, and I found myself replacing it almost every year. Once I realized that, I started purchasing high-end kitchenware and cookware. If you make the right purchase, these items will last for decades. I also have bought some high-quality Chinaware. silverware, and other kitchen utensils. When I cook, I use high-quality, organic food rather than processed foods. It is not that much more expensive if you buy in bulk from a store like Costco or Sam's Club. You will also save money on future healthcare expenses, if you make buying higher-quality, organic food a habit.

One of the last things that I will spend a little more on is on a hotel I stay at. Staying at cheap, "no tell motel" is the surest way to ruin a vacation. When I travel, I make sure I stay in a hotel that showers me in pure luxury. A cheap hotel gives cheap customer service. A five-star hotel provides customer service that caters to its guest's every need. When I am traveling, I want to know that I am going to be showered with customer service. You won't get that staying at a $19.95 motel along the highway. Staying at a luxury hotel or resort is not as expensive as it seems. There are plenty of accommodation websites on the internet where you can book a hotel room for 50% to 80% off the walk-in or phone reservation price.
